DON'T MISS IT! THINKING GENDER is this Friday, February 7th.

The 24rd Annual Graduate Student Research Conference convenes on February 7, 2014, at the UCLA Faculty Center from 8:30 am to 5:40 pm. Thinking Gender is a public conference highlighting graduate student research on women, sexuality and gender across all disciplines and historical periods. It is free and open to the public. This year's panels include “Controversial Indulgences at Work, Home, and Play,” “Post-Human(ities): Media, Digital Culture, and Cyberfeminisms,” and “Skin Unbounded: Destabilizing Notions of Gender/Sexuality in Science, Art, and Theory” and feature students from across the country and around the world.

We are especially excited about this year’s plenary session, “Somatic Pleasures and Traumas: Seduction, Senses, and Sexuality,” which will be moderated by CSW Director Kathleen McHugh and takes place from 1 to 2:30 in the Sequoia Room of the UCLA Faculty Center. The panel will feature: “The Site of Insult: Spinal Cord Injury, Push Girls and the Ground Zero of Female Pleasure” by Krista Kane; “Who is Josie Packard? Joan Chen, Lucy Liu and the Uncommon Sense of Pleasure” by Mila Zuo; “’No Shameful Mastery’: Sexuality, Race, and Authenticity in Colonial Kenya” by Elizabeth Williams; and “Cinephilia as Post-Traumatic Compulsion?: Erotic Thriller Obsession in Odette Springer and Johanna Demetrakas’ Some Nudity Required” by Ben Raphael Sher.

We hope you will join us for a fascinating day of research on gender, sexuality, and women's issues.
