All applicants must be eligible for financial aid or student loans.

We cannot accept late or incomplete applications. Please be sure to submit all application materials on time. Once all of the applications are received, our review committee will make a final selection and notices will be sent in May.

George Eliot Dissertation Research Fellowship
This award, made possible with the generous donation from Barbara “Penny” Kanner, provides a $1,000 scholarship to support an exceptional graduate student dissertation research project pertaining to women or gender that utilizes a historical perspective in literature or the art. In order to be eligible, applicant must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program at UCLA and must submit a dissertation prospectus on women and/or gender utilizing a historical perspective in either literature or the arts.

In order to complete the online application, the following will need to be provided:


  *    Dissertation Prospectus
  *   CV
  *    Transcripts
  *    Letter of Recommendation from two faculty members

Mary Wollstonecraft Dissertation Research Fellowship

Jean Stone Dissertation Research Fellowship
This award, which is made possible through the generosity of Mrs. Jean Stone, offers $3000 in grant money to help fund an exceptional graduate student dissertation research project focusing on women or gender. Student must be registered and enrolled in a Ph.D. program at UCLA and have advanced to candidacy by one month before award deadline. Students who advance to candidacy after the deadline are not eligible.

In order to complete the online application, the following will need to be provided:


  *   Dissertation Abstract
  *   Budget Statement (describing how the funds will be used)
  *   Curriculum Vitae
  *   Transcripts (unofficial copy is acceptable)
  *   Letters of recommendation from two faculty members (one of which must be from the candidate's chair). The letters should be mailed to CSW in a sealed envelope with the recommender’s signature across the back flap.Mailing information is provided in the application form.

Paula Stone Legal Research Fellowship
This award is made possible through the generosity of Mrs. Jean Stone to honor her daughter, Paula Stone, and offers $3000 in grant money to help fund a promising law or graduate student advanced research project focusing on women and the law with preference given to research on women in the criminal/legal justice system. Students must be registered and enrolled in a J.D., LL.M., S.J.D, or Ph.D. program at UCLA and must be pursuing independent research for publication including a law review article or other type of academic article or a doctoral dissertation.

In order to complete the online application, please provide the following:


·         Project Abstract (3-5 pages)

·         Budget Statement (describing how the funds will be used)

·         Curriculum Vitae

·         Transcripts (unofficial copy is acceptable)

·         Letters of recommendation from two faculty members.
