Dear Colleagues,

The Institute for Research on Women and Gender (IRWG)<http://umich.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9b92f9dcbb04e0723b839221e&id=ded033fb0b&e=200a96df4a> is dedicated to fostering and supporting faculty research on women, gender and sexuality. In an effort to provide a hands-on, practical implementation of this mission, we announce the application process for the second annual IRWG Feminist Research Seminar<http://umich.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9b92f9dcbb04e0723b839221e&id=5117bc9eb2&e=200a96df4a>.

The annual IRWG Feminist Research Seminars are small, themed residential conferences, proposed and designed by one or two interested applicants, bringing together 10-12 feminist scholars to address quandaries in theoretical or empirical research related to gender, women and sexuality. The seminar offers feminist scholars a unique opportunity to work together, uninterrupted, in an intimate and supportive setting. (Participants first convene on Thursday afternoon and stay until Sunday afternoon.) IRWG Feminist Research Seminars are also designed to encourage connections for future collaboration among participants.

While formats may vary, depending on the wishes of the organizer(s), a Feminist Research Seminar is not an occasion designed for the conventional presentation of papers or lectures. Instead, the main focus of a seminar should be individual research concerns and quandaries with which participants are grappling. Research concerns may be practical, substantive or more personal.

We encourage faculty from across disciplines and institutions to apply to become organizers; it is they who will determine seminar participants. These seminars are designed to be flexible and crafted to meet the needs of the participants. Successful proposals will be fully funded, including travel, lodging and meals.

In October, the first seminar met, organized by Laura Foster (IU) and Kim TallBear (UT Austin) “Feminist Postcolonial Science and Technology Studies: Instigations, Interrogations and New Developments.” In the spring, our second seminar is organized by Carol Jacobsen (UM), “Feminist Video Documentary Strategies in Social Dissent and Change.”

A detailed description of the Feminist Research Seminar, including the eligibility requirements and proposal guidelines for organizers is available by clicking here<http://umich.us7.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=9b92f9dcbb04e0723b839221e&id=5b7011a1a2&e=200a96df4a>. The deadline for submitting a proposal is January 15, 2015.

I hope you find IRWG’s Feminist Research Seminars an opportunity worth considering. I invite you to share this information with your colleagues and affiliated scholars who you think may be interested in applying to be seminar organizers. If you or they have any questions, please feel free to email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely yours,
