2 Adjunct Assistant Professor Positions with the UCLA Center for the Study of Women

The Center for the Study of Women in the UCLA College of Letters and Sciences in conjunction with UCLA’s Gender Studies Department and the Institute of Society and Genetics invites highly qualified applicants for two non-tenure track Adjunct Assistant Professor openings for the 2016-17 Academic Year (renewable for a second year at the discretion of the Center for the Study of Women). 

 

The Adjunct Assistant Professors will conduct and engage in research in the fields of gender and/or sexuality studies with preference for projects in postcolonial science and technology studies, environmental justice, critical race studies, and biohumanities. Adjunct Assistant Professors are expected to contribute to the Center’s research activities and programs on the topics of “Food, Water, Shelter,” “Feminism and the Senses,” “Chemical Entanglements,” or “Life (Un)Ltd,” and to participate in the annual Thinking Gender conference. Adjunct Assistant Professors will also teach one course in either the Gender Studies Department or Institute of Society and Genetics at UCLA. We welcome applicants whose experience in research and teaching has prepared them to contribute to UCLA’s commitment to excellence and diversity.

 

Applicants should have received their PhD in a social sciences or humanities discipline between January 1, 2012 and no later than June 30, 2016. We are seeking applicants who do not already hold a permanent tenure-track position elsewhere. Immediately pending or recent PhDs and postdoctoral fellows are invited to apply.

Eligibility

 

?         A doctoral degree in social sciences or humanities is required by date of anticipated appointment of July 1, 2016. Recent PhDs are encouraged to apply.

?         Knowledge of gender and LGBT issues, strong research skills, and experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis.

?         An outstanding aptitude for independent public policy, social science, humanities, and/or public health research, preferably demonstrated through research and writing as a graduate student or experience after graduate school.

?         Strong academic records and communication skills.

?         1-page Abstract with current project title (250-300 words)

?         Detailed Narrative Statement (2,000 words), describing research project the applicant will undertake during the term of appointment. The narrative statement should describe how the proposed project emerges from the applicant’s prior work and should

o   provide clear articulation of applicant’s research question

o   explain relevance of the proposed research to gender, feminist or sexuality studies

o   articulate how proposed project will advance project of Life(Un)Ltd, Feminism and the Senses, Chemical Entanglements, or Food, Water, Shelter around gender and/or sexuality
