CSW 2012 Constance Coiner Award

Funding Available for Graduate and Undergraduate Students

 

 

Applications due by Thursday, February 16 at 5:30pm!

 

 

This award honors the life and continues the work of Constance Coiner, PhD (1987), who died along with her daughter, Ana Duarte-Coiner, on TWA Flight 800, in June of 1996.

 

 

Undergraduate Award:

 

Two awards of $750 will be given. All applicants must be upper-division students (with a GPA of 3.0 or higher) who demonstrate an active commitment to both working-class and feminist issues and involvement in community activities for social change.

 

In order to complete the online application, please provide the following:

 

-          Personal Essay (see online application page for guidelines)

-          Curriculum Vitae

-          UCLA Transcripts

-          Letters of recommendation from two faculty members in an envelope with the recommender’s signature across the back flap

1.       One letter for academic/teaching work 

2.       One letter for community work

Graduate Award:

 

One award of $1,500 will be given. Applicant must be enrolled in a PhD program at UCLA and must be in engaged in research focusing on feminist and working-class issues. Applicant must demonstrate excellence in teaching and a commitment to teaching as activism.

Applicant must also have advanced to candidacy by one month prior to award deadline. Students who advanced to candidacy after the deadline are not eligible.

Once all of the applications are received, our review committee will make a final selection and notices will be sent at the end of March. If selected, you will be invited to attend our Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the Faculty Center.
