Dear CSW Advisory Committee, Faculty Affiliates, and Research Scholars, I am very pleased to send you the CSW annual report for 2010-11. CSW had a highly productive year. Our impact on UCLA continues to grow as we reach across the campus to foster research and to support faculty and students in our mission areas. Our many successes include: • "New Majorities, Shifting Priorities" survey and conferences, which brought an amazing energy and array of ideas about the future of research, teaching, and institutional affiliations in gender, sexuality, LGBT, ethnic, women’s, and postcolonial studies. • "Women and STEM,” Faculty Curator Series curated by Professor Jenessa Shapiro, Department of Psychology. This series brought top researchers to UCLA to consider how stereotypes undermine the interest and success of women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. • Policy Briefs Series, a new publications series that features feminist scholarship that rethinks policy on gender, sexuality, and women's issues. The first six briefs are available on our website and on CSW's site at the California Digital Library and in a printed newsletter. And to cap an already amazing year, in May, CSW received a substantial NEH grant for "Making Invisible Histories Visible: Preserving the Legacy of Lesbian Feminist Activism and Writing in Los Angeles." CSW is delighted we are able to continue this multiyear collaborative project with the Mazer Archive and the UCLA library that will benefit scholars all over the world for years to come! As we look forward to another wonderful year, I hope you will join us on October 11, from 4 to 6 pm in Royce 314, for the Annual Fall Reception. With all best wishes, Kathleen Kathleen McHugh Director, Center for the Study of Women Professor, English and Cinema & Media Studies PS If you have problems with opening the file or would like to see the appendices, email Brenda Johnson-Grau, CSW Managing Editor, [log in to unmask]
