"An interdisciplinary approach to global reproductive justice"
Event goals include:
Awareness: to increase audience awareness of the importance of working within multiple sectors to develop, implement, and achieve a holistic improvement in reproductive health for women and men around the world (including the US).
Skills: to give advice, lessons learned, success stories and solutions on how to increase effectiveness in collaboration between sectors to advocate for and address reproductive health issues.
Action: to provide a relaxed, professional environment in which guests experienced in global reproductive justice careers can meet and provide real-world advice to UCLA graduate students who are eager to enter this field.
Speaker topics will include:
Economic policy - how US and international funding related to family planning and access to reproductive health services impacts women and families throughout the world
Medicine - advancements in reproductive health, engaging providers in reproductive justice issues, doctors' and medical professionals' roles, how to improve services for women seeking reproductive health
Public Health - how the presence or absence of reproductive justice influences the health of the community, including epidemiology, environmental health and access health services
Social Welfare - links between poverty and reproductive justice issues
Law - US and international law related to reproductive rights, e.g. sex trafficking and abortion rights.
