Hi fellow Research Scholars,

I’m not 100% clear on what the recently announced changes will mean for remote access to UCLA library resources (article databases, for example). Seems like there are a lot of ifs and maybes, and nobody can say exactly what we’ll be able to access after July 1. So I’m looking at alternatives, and finding that some of my alumni associations offer some access—definitely more limited than we have now, but maybe better than what we’ll have after renewal? And without the complicated application process, which seems to have added some extra hoops this time around.

For example: Penn State alumni have access to JStor, Project Muse, Ebsco, ProQuest—and an alumni association membership is only $50/year.

Dozens of other alumni organizations have similar programs—here’s the list of schools that offer JStor to alumni, for example:

The UCs are not on the list for JStor, but Kathie Sheldon just linked to this page, which says there is some ProQuest content available for UCLA alumni ($55/year):

I’m still looking around for other avenues to access. Please, let’s share what we find. I’ll probably just join whatever association has the best deal. We already get four or five alumni magazines at our house, what’s one more?
