Dear CSWAC,
On April 15, join the Center for Reproductive Health, Law, and Policy and the Criminal Justice Program at UCLA Law for an educational webinar for students and community members to explore the important role that prosecutors can play in limiting the criminalization of abortion and bodily autonomy more generally.
The discussion, which will be a moderated conversation amongst prosecutors across the country, will highlight how criminalizing private medical decisions like abortion harms public welfare and safety and the various strategies prosecutors are utilizing to limit these negative impacts. The conversation will also touch on ways anti-abortion politicians in some states have taken aim at prosecutors who have exercised their discretion to refuse to prosecute in these instances and the important structural issues this raises.
We hope the program will inspire students planning careers in public service to consider ways they can use their powers to protect important rights and practice with a clear set of values, and engage community members connected to our Centers and Programs to learn more about the important role of prosecutors in protecting public health.
